What Leadership Looks Like After Loss: A Personal Story

by | Career, Growth Mindset, Leadership, Mindful Living, Well-Being

“I lost my father. And still had to lead.”

Grief doesn’t care about your title.
It doesn’t consult your calendar.
It doesn’t ask if now is a good time.
It just arrives—heavy, quiet, sometimes sudden—and demands your heart’s attention while the rest of the world expects your leadership.

When I lost my father, I didn’t know how I was supposed to keep showing up.
But I did.
And through that season, I learned something no leadership book could teach me:

Grief and greatness can co-exist.

I still held meetings.
I still led projects.

But everything inside me was raw. Different. Quiet.

I learned to be softer with myself and with others.
I learned that not knowing what to say is okay.

I learned that people respect honesty more than perfection.

Leadership after loss isn’t about staying strong.
It’s about staying present—even when it hurts.

It’s about listening deeply, showing grace, and embracing the sacredness of vulnerability.

If you’re reading this and you’ve lost someone, know that I see you.
And if you’re leading through it, I honor your courage.

Your grief doesn’t make you weaker—it makes your leadership more human.
And the world needs more of that.

With love,
